Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is taking on a new look as he embraces his role as the team's backup.

Fitzpatrick showed up to the team's Wednesday practice with a trimmed beard and short-shorts; quite the change for the signal-caller known for his grizzled looks and rugged demeanor.

“Fitzmagic” played a vital role in getting the Dolphins off to a 3-3 start. He completed just over 70 percent of his passes and averaged close to eight yards per pass attempt.

Although turnovers were an issue — seven interceptions in six games — Ryan Fitzpatrick gave the team a veteran presence under center and proved capable of making big plays.

Fitzpatrick was on record about his disappointment at being demoted to backup in favor of first-round pick Tua Tagovailoa, but he remains as professional as they come.

The 37-year-old is likely to continue his mentorship of Tua and stay ready in case he is called upon again. Yes, even donning a drastically new look.
