According to David Nakamura of the Washington Post, President Donald Trump called Chinese President Xi Jinping in hopes of resolving the shoplifting case against UCLA Bruins freshman basketball player LiAngelo Ball and two of his college teammates.

Trump brought attention to the legal matter to Xi during his two-day stay in Beijing. It was just one day after Ball as well as teammates Cody Riley and Jalen Hill were arrested in Hangzhou after allegedly shoplifting from a Louis Vuitton store next to UCLA's hotel.

In his article, Nakamura also noted that after Trump brought up the matter, Xi promised to take a look at the case. Xi said he wanted to be sure that the three UCLA players are to be treated fairly and expeditiously, as said by a U.S. official who spoke anonymously because of the sensitivity of the situation.
