Contract negotiations can always be tricky.

Right now, the relationship between the Houston Rockets and Donatas Montiejunas isn't great as Montiejunas is in search of a contract extension.

Via ESPN.com:

“They haven't made us a serious offer,” Montiejunas' agent, BJ Armstong, told ESPN on Wednesday. “Our moment of truth will be Oct. 1. We'll make a decision on that day.”

The Rockets extended a qualifying offer to Montiejunas this summer but the big man is pushing instead for an extension. He has until Oct. 1 to sign that qualifying offer.

Montiejunas battled some back injuries last season, delaying his start to the season. That may be something that has the Rockets a little more hesitant to commit to him long-term.

Houston also agreed to trade Montiejunas to the Detroit Pistons mid-season, but the trade ended up being rejected after Montiejunas failed to pass a physical. He played well for Houston after that moment, averaging 6.2 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

“There's only so much we can do based on the current CBA,” Armstrong said, alluding to the fact Motiejunas is a restricted free agent and outside of getting an offer from another team, which the Rockets can match, he's in limbo. “I'm not frustrated — this is what it is. We'll know where the Rockets stand by [Oct. 1]. All deals get done in the 11th hour.”

It will be interesting to see what develops in this situation and where Montiejunas' future takes him if things continue going south in Houston.
