The New Orleans Pelicans have won the Donatas Motiejunas sweepstakes, agreeing to a $600,000 contract for the remainder of the season, the team announced Tuesday.

The deal is a pro-rated veteran minimum salary and much less than the four-year, $37 million deal originally offered by the Brooklyn Nets and consequently matched by the Houston Rockets.

Motiejunas has played all of his four NBA seasons with the Rockets, averaging 7.8 points and four rebounds.

The addition will give New Orleans another flexible big man that can step outside the three-point line and shoot it comfortably as well as a skilled big able to finish in the paint.

The Pelicans waived guard Reggie Williams on Monday in anticipation of the signing in order to make room on the roster.

If healthy enough, Motiejunas could get minutes in the twenties on a regular basis, and if head coach Alvin Gentry deems so, even start in place of Omer Asik at center — providing the team a more offensive-minded approach in 2017.
