The Utah Jazz and the Oklahoma City Thunder kick off their 2021-2022 NBA season tonight. Utah features one of the best guards in the NBA in Donovan Mitchell. The Thunder feature one of the best defenders in the NBA Lu Dort.

Quin Snyder, the Jazz coach was asked about the success that Lu Dort has had guarding Donovan Mitchell.

“My guess is you could say that about Lu Dort with a lot of guys,” Snyder said to Thunder beat reporter, Joe Mussatto.

Lu Dort has a defensive rating of 114.3 in his career. Donovan Mitchell has averaged 23.4 points in his career.

Donovan Mitchell in his career versus the Thunder has not had much success in the win department as he's 4-8 versus them. Mitchell has however averaged 23 points in his 12 contests versus the Thunder.

Dort is 2-2 in his career against the Jazz. Dort has averaged 20.5 points per game in the four games versus the Jazz.

The Thunder and jazz square off tonight for their first game of the regular season, and as we see from coach Quinn Snyder's comments there is a level of respect between the locker room on how good a defensive player Lu Dort is.

The battle between Dort and Mitchell is going to be fun to watch as both of these stars will battle out for another 10+ years.
