Concussions are always difficult to deal with and Chicago Bulls forward Doug McDermott found that out for himself the hard way.

Almost two months after he suffered his second concussion of the season, the 25-year-old Creighton product is still feeling the effects of it. He recently talked about having short-term memory losses and even cited an incident when he got lost in downtown Chicago while riding a cab.

“There are still times it takes me a little bit to think of a play. That's something the specialist told me would take a little bit of time. Coaches are aware of that when we go through walk-through and stuff. I may be a little slow. But I feel good. I've been sleeping good, no headaches.”

“And then I got into the cab to get home and I just completely lost my head. I didn't know where I was in Chicago. I finally got back to my place and just had a crazy headache. That's when I was like, ‘Dang, this will take longer than I thought.' It was a real low point.”

Although his struggles with the head injury are not seen with the numbers he's been producing since his return, McDermott admitted he is more cautious right now and is still trying to get his timing back.

“I was still a little timid when I first came back. I'm not going to lie. You can go through the concussion protocol and try to simulate a game. But it's obviously different when you're out there in an NBA game against the best players in the world. Overall, my timing has gotten better. I'm just trying to help our offense any way I can.”

The Chicago faithful are hoping he can speed up his recovery and get back to 100 percent soon as the team needs all the help they can get as they have just recently found their groove again after losing 11 of their last 18 games. With McDermott now closing in on getting back to full strength, it will certainly help their cause and make a big push for a playoff berth as the season progresses.
