Esports team burjui may have just jeopardized their whole Dota 2 careers. DreamLeague disqualified the team from the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Europe Lower Division after the team forged COVID-19 test results to compete.

COVID-19 TEST RESULTS FORGED TO ALLOW ILLEGAL SUB

DreamLeague, through an official announcement issued last week, explained the disqualification of burjui from the DPC EU Lower Division tournament. This follows an investigation wherein DreamLeague found that burjui forged COVID-19 test results.

Burjui tried to make a substitution in their roster. However, the team has already exhausted their maximum number of games in which they can play with a registered substitute. In an attempt to get around this, burjui tried to sub out a player by claiming that the player tested positive for COVID-19.

“In special circumstances,” DreamLeague writes, “an emergency transfer could be allowed upon reviewing the case and the provided documents.” However, upon requesting supporting documents, burjui reportedly refused to comply. Upon further investigation, DreamLeague discovered forgery in the test results.

“As a result of this,” reads the announcement, “we have no alternative but to disqualify burjui from the ongoing DreamLeague Season 14 DPC EU Lower Division.”

Because of burjui's disqualification, none of the Lower Division teams face the risk of elimination from the Lower Division. Usually, the bottom two teams leave the Lower Division at the end of the tournament. Other teams will then get a chance to fight over their position in an open qualifier.

As a result, all six teams in the Lower Division can feel safe about their position in the DPC. Over the past week, teams were able to play with confidence, knowing that doing well can grant them a ticket to the Upper Division next season, and can only make them stay in the Lower Division if they failed.

Currently, Brame Creepwave, and Hellbear Smashers have the chance of competing in the DPC EU Upper Division next season. The three teams stand 6-1 in their scores. They will compete in a tie-breaker round on February 27 to determine which two teams will advance to the Upper Division next season.
