Before being named the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, Luke Walton served as the Golden State Warriors assistant and helped the team to a record 73-9 last season and win the championship in 2015. During his stint in Oakland, he had good relationships with almost all the players and gained their respect.

Last Friday, the Warriors traveled to L.A. to face Walton's new team and were hoping to build on the momentum they gained after a huge win against the Oklahoma City Thunder the previous night. Players like Draymond Green looked forward to the matchup as a win would definitely serve as bragging rights between them and the 36-year-old bench tactician. It was even reported that Green sent Walton a text message letting him know how excited he was about the game.

He may be hyped up before the matchup, but Walton and the Lakers had the last laugh on the night as they blew out the Warriors at home by 20 points, 117-97, and gave them their second loss of the campaign.

The teams will have three more meetings this season and it will be very interesting to see if Green and the Warriors can bounce back from this defeat and win the season series against their former assistant coach's team.
