Bennett provided the Duke coach a plaque of a jersey with “COACH K” inscribed on it. Bennett even went one step further. He took the microphone and shared some kind words to the Blue Devils legend.

“I want to take this opportunity… to acknowledge your monumental contributions to the basketball world… and our game of college basketball. Your success is remarkable and you have stood the test of time,” Bennett said.

Bennett has resurrected the Virginia program over the last decade or so. That culminated in winning a national championship in 2019. That also helped renew the rivalry between the Duke Blue Devils and the Virginia Cavaliers in ACC play.

Wednesday was a pivotal matchup between the two teams. Duke entered the contest atop the ACC at 13-3. Virginia was two and a half games behind at 11-6. The Blue Devils are in play for a #1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament; meanwhile, Virginia could fall anywhere from a 4-12 seed.
