Dwayne Johnson’s net worth in 2021 is estimated to be at $400 million. This is according to multiple reputable sources such as Celebrity Net Worth.

Before becoming the critically acclaimed movie star and World Wrestling Entertainment legend, Dwayne Johnson started out as a football player. He was an incredible athlete during high school as he was a part of the school’s football, track and field, and wrestling teams.

He was considered a promising prospect as he received numerous offers from Division I collegiate programs. Johnson decided to join the University of Miami on a full scholarship where he played defensive tackle.

He was part of the Miami Hurricanes’ national championship team in 1991. However, Johnson primarily played in a backup role as he only started one game in four years. He played behind players such as Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Sapp.

In 1995, Johnson graduated with a Bachelor of General Studies in criminology and physiology from the University of Miami. Unfortunately, he went undrafted in the 1995 NFL Draft. He then signed with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League but was eventually cut two months into the season.

Dwayne Johnson decided to pursue professional wrestling, following in the footsteps of his father, Rocky Johnson, and maternal grandfather, Peter Maivia, who were professional wrestlers. He secured multiple tryouts for the WWF and wrestled in various house shows and Jerry Lawler’s United States Wrestling Association where he became one half of the USWA World Tag Team Championship.

He then signed a WWF contract in 1996.

Dwayne Johnson made his WWF debut under the ring name Rocky Maivia, a combination of his father and grandfather’s ring names. He was given the nickname “The Blue Chipper” and was hyped as the WWF’s first third-generation wrestler.

He started out as a face character where he was pushed heavily from the start despite his inexperience. He won the Intercontinental Championship from Hunter Hearst Helmsley and he successfully defended the belt in his first Wrestlemania match at Wrestlemania 13.

Johnson then turned heel in 1997 as he was lashing out at fans who had been booing him. He then refused to acknowledge the Rocky Maivia name and instead referred to himself in the third person as “The Rock”. He would regularly insult the audience, fellow WWF performers, and interviewers in his promos.

Throughout his professional wrestling career, The Rock was involved in numerous feuds with notable names in the industry such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, Ken Shamrock, Mankind, The Undertaker, The Big Show, among others.

He made his first retirement from the WWE in 2004 as he fought his last match during Wrestlemania XX where he helped Mick Foley against Ric Flair, Randy Orton, and Batista in a handicap match. He then made sporadic appearances before his contract ended.

On March 29, 2008, Dwayne Johnson inducted his father Rocky Johnson and grandfather Peter Maivia into the WWE Hall of Fame.

On February 14, 2011, The Rock appeared on Raw for the first time in seven years and he addressed the fans in a lengthy promo and he started a feud with John Cena. He was a regular until 2014, and he only appeared sporadically from 2014-2019 before officially announcing his retirement from professional wrestling on August 3, 2019.

I miss wrestling, I love wrestling,” Johnson said. “I quietly retired from wrestling because I was lucky enough to have just a really wonderful career and accomplish what I wanted to accomplish.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson achieved a lot during his professional wrestling career like:

  • Two-time USWA Tag Team Champion
  • Eight-time WWE Champion
  • Two-time WCW Champion
  • Two-time Intercontinental Champion
  • Five-time WWF Tag Team Champion
  • 2000 Royal Rumble Winner
  • Nine-time Slammy Award Winner

The Rock is considered to be one of the all-time greatest professional wrestlers. Many have placed him on the Mount Rushmore of Pro Wrestling along with Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, and John Cena. He also raked in numerous viewerships during his career.

In the 2021 Survivor Series, the WWE honored The Rock’s 25th-anniversary debut with a 25-man battle royal.

As for his acting career, Dwayne Johnson started his career on television while wrestling in the WWF/E. His first acting job was in 1999 where he portrayed his father in an episode of That 70’s show. He then appeared in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager.

His first theatrical role was in the 2001 movie The Mummy Returns. His performance garnered him his first lead role in the prequel/spin-off of the Mummy Returns titled “The Scorpion King”. Aside from that, he starred in numerous movies in the 2000s such as Gridiron Gang, The Game Plan, Get Smart, Walking Tall, and The Rundown, among others.

Dwayne Johnson’s first box office success came in the 2011 movie Fast Five where he portrayed Luke Hobbs. The movie became the seventh highest-grossing film of 2011. He then joined the G.I. Joe franchise portraying Marvin Hinton/Roadblock in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. He also reprised his role as Luke Hobbs in Fast & Furious 6.

By the end of 2013, Forbes has named him the top-grossing actor of 2013 as his films brought in $1.3 billion worldwide.
