During the summer of 2012, one of the biggest trades that happened was when the Orlando Magic agreed to send Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers. Considered a top-three center that time, his addition to the L.A. team was thought of by many as the signing that could take them to the next level, and once again compete for a championship.

As it turned out though, his stint with the Lakers was a forgettable one, as he was not able to live up to expectations. He averaged the least number of points since his second year in the league, and failed to co-exist with Kobe Bryant on the court. However, he recently gave his take on why things did not go according to plan four years ago, and blamed his struggles on multiple injuries he suffered.

Howard joined the Lakers coming off back surgery, and needed six months to fully recover from it. He came into the season not fully conditioned, and was obviously having difficulty getting his timing back. He was able to turn things around in the second half of the campaign, but suffered a shoulder injury that he had to battle throughout the remainder of the season. The team still made the playoffs that year, but were swept by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round.

Four years past, Howard now finds himself in a Charlotte Hornets jersey, where he looks to rejuvenate his career. Although his departure from the Atlanta Hawks came as a shock to many, it’s good news for him that there’s a team that gave up three assets to secure his services, as they see him as a player that still has a lot of game left in him.
