After a long and illustrious career with the Miami Heat, Dwyane Wade signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bulls, his hometown team, last summer. The contract included a guaranteed year plus a player option for the second year, and it seems like Wade will take that option and remain a Chicago Bull for at least one more year, according to a report from ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

He signed a two-year, $47 million contract, and his player option for the 2017-18 season is for $23.8 million. Sources also say that Wade informed the organization that he has no intention to be part of a rebuilding process, which is not surprising. However, with reports that All-Star forward Jimmy Butler is in the center of trade talks, the Bulls might be leaning toward that process Wade does not want.

Even if the Bulls end up trading Butler, there are a lot of reasons Wade would want to stay in Chicago. It is his hometown, and there are reports that he is really happy to play at home. As well as that, Wade would probably not get anywhere close to the $24 million he is guaranteed if he takes the player option. Because of that, all reports surrounding Wade point to him taking the player option by June 27, the deadline, regardless.

The Bulls have been in a strange position, where they are a good playoff team, yet not a contender. Currently, the Bulls are considering revamping the franchise and a good way to start would be to trade Butler for any picks they can amass from that trade. Signing Wade last summer was a strange move by the front office, as a player like him is better utilized as a part of a “win-now” team. The salary given to Wade was also strange, as it lowered salary cap levy for the Bulls in the short-term.

With more and more reports connecting Butler to various teams, this will be an interesting summer in the Windy City.
