Carmelo Anthony stopped by Madison Square Garden to see Dwyane Wade play ball with the Heat, and received a standing ovation from the crowd.

And that, says Wade, is totally fine by him.

Anthony was in the building to see Wade, his longtime friend, play in his final NBA season.

The warm reception was also noted by LeBron James, who also said that the kudos were “well deserved.”

It's the first time in a long time that Anthony has been back in the most famous arena on Earth, and one of the first times since he'd started his professional career that he returned as a fan. However, he also said that he was happy to be back in the arena where he played seven seasons (even though his former team, the NY Knicks, lost to Wade and the Miami Heat).

For Anthony, it was about supporting his friend.

“If it was one moment that I could come out and be here in this seat, it's to come see him finish it out here in the Garden. Knowing what he's put into this game, knowing what he'll continue to do, it's deeper than basketball when it comes to us.”

That didn't stop ESPN from asking him questions about his impending free agency. Anthony, who is currently on the Chicago Bulls' roster, will likely be traded or waived before the February 7th trade deadline, according to reports.

And that, said Melo, is fine by him, too.

“I think I've put myself in a good, peaceful mind state right now, [being] able to focus in on what I need to focus in on. And whatever's going to make me happy, then we're going to make it happen.”
