After “an extremely emotional and tough decision,” Dwyane Wade is leaving the Miami Heat after 13 seasons. He has already informed the Chicago Bulls that he will sign with them and has accept their offer for $47 million over two years.

This free agency was very different from what the 12-time all-star went through last year as he did meet with multiple other teams this time around. News came out that he sat down with the Denver Nuggets and Milwaukee Bucks.

In a letter by Wade to the city of Miami, he reflected on the decision:

“This was not an easy decision, but I feel I have made the right choice for myself and my family… Watching the Bulls growing up inspired me at an early age to pursue my dream of becoming a basketball player. My most treasured memories were watching my dad play basketball on the courts of Fermi Elementary School and developing my game at the Blue Island Recreation Center. I have never forgotten where I came from and I am thankful to have an opportunity to play for the team that first fueled my love of the game.

Wade will team up with newly acquired point guard Rajon Rondo and all-star shooting guard Jimmy Butler. The Bulls are now frantically looking to trade players to create space for the 34-year-old veteran.

This leaves the Heat to apply their Plan B, if they have any. The future of Chris Bosh is still up in the air because of blood clots that have sidelined him for the second part of each of the last two seasons. Wade's teammate since he started his NBA career 13 years ago, Udonis Haslem will most certainly look for another team. Surely, the Miami Heat franchise will never be the same without Dwyane Wade.

Wade added in his letter:

“I started my NBA career with the Miami Heat in 2003 and it has been an honor to have played with them and help build a winning franchise with three NBA championships. I look back with pride and amazement at all we have accomplished together. I want to express my gratitude to the Arison family, Pat Riley, Coach Erik Spoelstra, the coaching staff, and the entire Miami Heat organization…From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the Miami community.”

He closed with:

“I look forward to returning to my roots and to what lies ahead.”

A new day has definitely begun for Dwyane Wade.
