Apart from familiarizing himself with a new environment, among the things that Alshon Jeffery will have to get accustomed to in the NFC East is hearing Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman talk smack on a regular basis. And it didn’t take long for Jeffery, acquired by the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, to get baptized by the ever prolific mouth of Norman, who told Tyler Dune of Bleacher Report last May that his matchups with opposing wideouts in the NFC East are going to be messy.

“Trust me when I tell you, it's going to be bad blood this year. You think the NFC East didn't like each other before? This year right here? There's going to be a lot of fines and maybe some suspensions. I'm going to be honest with you: This s**t is going to get really ugly.”

While he wasn’t as riled up when he was talking about Jeffery, Norman simply can’t help but see himself as the superior one in such matchup.

“Alshon [Jeffery] is going to be with us this year. He's a big guy. He uses his body. And I enjoy going against big guys because they think they can get physical with me. They think that. That's quite the contrary. … It's those little jokers, those little buggers, you've got to get down with.”

Jeffery, of course, got a whiff of Norman’s sideswipe but opted to not to follow Odell Beckham Jr.’s example. Instead, he took the high road instead with a bubble-wrapped response, as reported by Dave Zangaro of CSNPhilly.com.

“I just go out and just play football,” Jeffery said on Wednesday afternoon. “I let my game do the talking. All that other stuff will take care of itself.”

After five seasons with the Chicago Bears, Jeffery arrived in Philly last March, signing a one-year, $9.5-million contract with the Eagles, who are hoping that his addition to the squad will bolster their anemic passing game that averaged just 224.1 yards per contest in 2016.

Jeffery and Norman won’t have to wait for so long to see each other face-to-face on the field this season, as the Eagles play Washington on the road in Week 1.
