The Philadelphia Eagles have expressed confidence in Alshon Jeffery returning to form during the 2020 season. But it appears he'll have to wait to prove himself to the team. While the Eagles prepare to begin training camp, Jeffery has been placed on the PUP list, per Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

As McLane points out, it's no surprise that Jeffery is going to beginning training camp on the PUP list. Dating back to last season, Jeffery has been rehabbing from a Lisfranc injury that sidelined him for six games in 2019. Over a month ago, Doug Pederson, despite the progress Jeffery has made, shared that it was unknown when the veteran wideout could return to the field.

Seeing that he's been placed on the PUP list, it may be a while before the Eagles get a chance to see how healthy he is. At the least, Philadelphia addressed the wide receiver position this offseason, giving them more depth.

In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Eagles added Jalen Reagor, John Hightower, and Quez Watkins. Also, Philadelphia was able to acquire Marquise Goodwin in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers. However, Goodwin has opted-out for the 2020 season due to concerns for his family.

Throughout the past year, Jeffery's future with the Eagles has been a topic of conversation. Regardless of Jeffery's injury concerns, he's still set to carry a $15.3 million cap hit in 2020. And he's also currently slated to carry an $18.4 million cap hit in 2021.

Both Pederson and GM Howie Roseman have exclaimed that Jeffery could be an important piece for the team in the upcoming season. Although, before he returns to the field, he'll need to show that he's one-hundred percent healthy from his Lisfranc injury.
