The Philadelphia Eagles got a boost at practice this week with the return of wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. Unfortunately, it seems they will have to wait a bit longer for him to be truly back in the mix.

Jeffery has been ruled out of Philadelphia's Week 3 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport:

Jeffery has been nursing a foot sprain he suffered in December of the 2019 campaign. Although the Eagles expected that he would miss some time with the injury in the 2020 NFL season, his activity in practice indicates that he is nearing a full return.

The passing game for quarterback Carson Wentz took another hit after rookie receiver Jalen Reagor suffered a UCL tear in his thumb that will keep him sidelined for multiple weeks. This will open things up for J.J. Arcega-Whiteside and fellow rookie John Hightower to lead the receiving corps in his absence while Jeffery remains out.

It is safe to say that the Eagles will continue to rely heavily on two-tight-end sets with Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert. The pair have served as safety nets for Wentz on offense so far with a combined 20 receptions for 191 yards and two touchdowns through the first two games.

Contrary to the first two games, the Eagles may not have to rely much on the passing game in Week 3. This Bengals defense has proven to be quite stout against quarterbacks by allowing the seventh-fewest passing yards per game (213). Meanwhile, their porous defense is giving up the third-most rushing yards per game (185), which bodes well for running back Miles Sanders.
