Troy Aikman is known for his time with the Dallas Cowboys, but there was once a chance that he might have suited up for the Philadelphia Eagles. Following an injury to Donovan McNabb, Andy Reid tried to get Aikman to come out of retirement to play for the Eagles.

In the piece by Sam Farmer of the LATimes, Aikman speaks about why he chose to retire from the NFL. Initially, Aikman wanted to end his career with the San Diego Chargers (now Los Angeles) with his future with the Cowboys up in the air.

Instead of joining the Chargers, Aikman chose to retire and call it quits after 12 years in the NFL. The three-time Super Bowl champion put down a football for a microphone as he joined Fox Sports' NFL coverage.

But soon after he joined the booth, Aikman received some interest from Reid. The Eagles were in dire need of a quarterback and Andy Reid wanted Aikman to end his retirement to join Philadelphia.

Regardless of how much Andy Reid wanted him to, Aikman never seemed overly interested in the idea. As he put it, he could enjoy the nice weather in Santa Barbara or he can be in Philadelphia ‘getting his brains kicked in'.

With Aikman turning down the offer, Andy Reid was forced to start Koy Detmer and A.J. Feeley at quarterback. Surprisingly enough, Detmer and Feeley were able to go 5-1 and help the Eagles win the NFC East.

Fans in Philadelphia spent plenty of years harassing Aikman with expletives while he was in Dallas. It would have been interesting to see how he was received by the Eagles' faithful had he accepted Reid's invitation.
