Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is good at a lot of things, but there is one place he really succeeds, sneaking the ball on third or fourth and one.
In his career, Wentz is 21-for-23 on third and fourth and one, including doing it three times last Sunday against the Washington Redskins, per NBC Sports.
Last season the Eagles didn't do it too often because Wentz wasn't fully healthy; but this year he is, and it's something that is a weapon.
When asked about why the team has so much success with Wentz gave all the credit card to his offensive line.
“With (Jason) Kelce and (Brook) Brooks and Isaac (Seumalo) – and obviously over the years those have been different guys – but those three and then the surge from really everybody, that makes my job easy,” Wentz said. “I’ve just got to fall forward.”
Wentz also knows it's something the coach trusts running because he knows the offensive line can get the surge to get it done.
“Coach trusts me with that, coach trusts the O-line to get a surge no matter what the front is, and we’ve been able to stay on the field in a lot of those,” Wentz said. “I like staying on the field. I don’t really care how we do it, as long as we convert, I love it. We believe our guys are going to win this surge.”
This is a really hard play to stop, and the Eagles are going to continue to run it, and probably at a high success rate.
