The Philadelphia Eagles have given nothing but positive updates on the healing process for quarterback Carson Wentz this offseason. However, Wentz is well-aware that his status for Week 1 of the 2018 NFL season is hardly set in stone.

Wentz is still recovering from the severe knee injury he suffered late in the 2017 campaign. According to Peter King of NBC’s Football Morning in America, he says it will be up to the team doctors to decide if he is good to go:

“I feel good,” Wentz said. “I feel good. What my goal has been all along is to be ready Week One. I can’t say 100 percent that I’ll be out there. But I do feel good where I’m at. At the end of the day, it’s not gonna be my call. It’s gonna be up to the doctors. But rehab’s gone really well. I felt like I’ve been right on schedule and everything. I feel good with where I’m at. At this point I just go practice and do what I can and let the doctors make the calls.”

It is encouraging to Wentz has taken an optimistic approach to his eventual return. It is indicative of how the team has gone about dealing with the rehabilitation process.

It should come as no surprise that the Eagles have been cautious with their star quarterback thus far. They managed to hold onto Super Bowl MVP quarterback Nick Foles this offseason which will give them some much-needed stability to start the season. With Foles still available, there is no reason for Philadelphia to throw Wentz out there before he is 100 percent.

Before his injury, Wentz was considered the favorite to take home the NFL's MVP award. Although he has been sidelined for quite some time, the expectations still could not be higher for him moving forward.
