The Philadelphia Eagles have been put into another tough situation with star quarterback Carson Wentz dealing with another major injury as he's working through a back fracture.

This had put into question his availability for the rest of the season given the type of injury suffered. The Eagles officially made that decision on Saturday morning by ruling him out for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

This had become all but a formality, as he had already been given a “doubtful” label on Friday's injury report for Week 15 action. He hadn't been able to practice all week and it was revealed that it will require three months for his back to fully heal.

Although Wentz had the desire to continue playing, the telling signs were there that he wouldn't be able to take the field for at least this week's game.

The Eagles may choose to shut him down entirely for the rest of the season given that the injury that he's dealing with along with the team's playoff chances being bleak at best at this point. In fact, if Philadelphia were to fall against Los Angeles, it would all but eliminate them from the playoff picture.

This will place backup Nick Foles back into the starting lineup as he hasn't taken the field since the first two games of the year when Wentz was still recovering from a torn ACL and MCL.

In the two games played this season, Foles posted 451 passing yards on a 65.9 percent completion rate along with a touchdown, an interception, and a 78.9 passer rating. Philadelphia has had plenty of confidence in Foles as the starter despite his struggles this year, as he had plenty of success during the team’s run to their first Super Bowl win where he played a major part.

Meanwhile, there should be more clarity on Wentz's situation in the coming days.
