The Philadelphia Eagles appear to be ready to go with veteran Nick Foles at quarterback to start their title defense on Sept. 6 against the Atlanta Falcons. There's been a lot of questions about Wentz's status with head coach Doug Pederson getting quite chippy about the constant speculation.

However, Wentz may not be ready to take the reigns as of yet. According to Eagles beat writer Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94WIP.com, the former second overall pick hasn't been cleared for contact only days ahead of the season opener.

Although the ideal scenario would be Wentz getting back under center as soon as possible for the NFC heavyweights against potentially one of their strongest opponents in the conference, Foles proved to be a formidable backup at the position last year when the MVP candidate went down with the season-ending knee injury. Foles gives the Eagles coaching staff the ability not to rush their star quarterback back on the field while remaining competitive on it to start the 2018 campaign.

As Wentz continues to try to bounce back in his rehab from knee surgery, it'll be interesting to see how long the defending Super Bowl champions will keep him sidelined. The team is apparently in no rush to get back on the field and justifiably so if he still hasn't been cleared for contact.

Following the season opener against the Falcons, the Eagles will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2 followed by the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans before facing perhaps their biggest challenge to start the season in the Minnesota Vikings come Week 5.
