The Philadelphia Eagles' secondary is in desperate need of help, and reinforcements seem to be on the way.

According to Dave Spadaro of the Eagles' team website, cornerback Jalen Mills is set to return to practice on Wednesday.

Mills has not played since October of last season, when he suffered a foot injury that ultimately required surgery. He was placed on the physically unable to perform list this offseason and is eligible to return against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.

Of course, how much Mills will actually help Philadelphia's defensive backfield remains to be seen.

The Eagles' defense has been a major problem all season long, particularly in defending the pass. Philly ranks just 29th in the NFL in passing defense, as it is allowing 280.2 passing yards per game.

Most recently, much-maligned Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins shredded the Birds for 333 yards and four touchdowns in what ended up being a 38-20 Vikings win this past Sunday.

In eight games last season, Mills registered 42 tackles and nine passes defended.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by the Eagles in the seventh round (233rd pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He played in all 16 games during his rookie campaign, finishing with 61 tackles and seven passes defended. He then followed that up by totaling 64 tackles, three interceptions, 14 passes defended and a defensive touchdown in 2018.

Philadelphia is now just 3-3 on the season and will take on the Cowboys in a pivotal NFC East showdown on Sunday evening.
