Connor Barwin remains unsigned with training camp fast approaching, leading to speculation that the 11-year veteran might be contemplating retirement. Not only does he fully intend on continuing his career in 2019, but Barwin knows exactly with which team he wants to play, too.

“I’m trying to come back and play for the Eagles,” he said, per Heavy.com. “I’m training right now and I’ve talked to [Eagles GM] Howie [Roseman] and they’re going to see if they need any depth on the edge and so I’m going to wait until camp starts before I sign anywhere else, but obviously I’m not going to wait too long. But the Eagles know that’s where I want to be.”

Barwin played four seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles, from 2013 to 2016. He was released in March of 2017 in a cost-cutting move, saving Philadelphia $7.75 million in salary cap room. The Eagles went on to win Super Bowl LII, and remain championship contenders a full season later, which Barwin says is the biggest reason why he hopes to rejoin Philadelphia.

A second-round pick in 2009, the University of Cincinnati product spent the first four seasons of his career with the Houston Texans. Barwin signed a three-year, $36 million contract with the Eagles in March 2013, immediately establishing himself as one of their most valuable defensive players, both on the field and in the locker room. His best season came a year later, when Barwin earned his only Pro Bowl nod after finishing with 14 and-a-half sacks, one of two times in his career he's reached double-digit takedowns of the opposing quarterback.
