Could Darren Sproles finally be ready to hang up his cleats?

According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the Philadelphia Eagles running back is considering retirement, but will take some time in making his decision.

Sproles has played in just nine games over the last two seasons due to injuries. This past year, he appeared in six contests and rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown while having 15 passes for 160 yards and a pair of scores.

The 35-year-old originally joined the Eagles for the 2014 campaign and made the Pro Bowl in his first season with the club after totaling 329 yards and six touchdowns on the ground and hauling in 40 receptions for 387 yards. However, where Sproles truly shined was on special teams, where he led the league with 506 punt return yards and two punt return touchdowns.

The following season, Sproles made another trip to Honolulu, once again due to his prowess on special teams. The shifty back once again led the league in punt return yardage with 446 yards and tallied a couple of more punt return scores.

Sproles then made yet another Pro Bowl appearance in 2016, but that season, it was based more on name than anything else, as he made minimal impact on special teams and accrued just four offensive touchdowns.

The Waterloo, Ia. native, who played his collegiate football at Kansas State University, was originally selected by the San Diego Chargers in the fourth round (130th pick overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft.

He spent the first six years of his career with the Chargers before joining the New Orleans Saints for three years.
