Darren Sproles has only played in one game this year and hasn't practiced since Nov. 7, but according to Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk, Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson told the media that he would be returning to practice on Thursday.

According to Pederson, Sproles is itching to get back on the field, and the team should have a better idea of when they might get him back after the practice sessions. Sproles missed all but three games last year because of a torn ACL, and he suffered a hamstring injury during the opening game of this season.

The Eagles need another good option out of the backfield because the team has had trouble getting good production from that position. Earlier this week, Pederson did call Josh Adams the lead back, but Sproles would be a good option behind him.

“It’s not to discount Corey [Clement] or Wendell [Smallwood] because they do a lot of great things as well,” Pederson said, via ProFootballTalk. “It’s just that Josh now is taking that lead and we continue to grow and try to increase his touches each week.”

Sproles has admitted that he contemplated retirement after last season, but he wanted to go out on his own terms, not because of an injury. If he can play a few games towards the end of the season, it will be interesting if he decides to hang it up, or if he will try and give it a go again next year.
