Shortly before training camp opened, the Philadelphia Eagles decided to bring back running back Darren Sproles on a one-year deal, following an offseason in which Sproles contemplated retirement.

But now, Sproles is ready to begin his 15th NFL season, and he is thrilled to do it as a member of the Eagles.

“I love this organization,’’ said Sproles, according to Paul Domowitch of The Philadelphia Inquirer. “We’re like a family here. From the locker room to the front office to the fans, once you’ve been here, you don’t want to go anywhere else.’’

Sproles received interest from numerous other teams, including his two former clubs, the Los Angeles Chargers and the New Orleans Saints. However, Sproles didn't want to go anywhere else.

The 36-year-old also said he has done a great job of staying in shape.

“I’ve been blessed,’’ said Sproles. “And I’ve taken care of my body. I never let myself get out of shape. I just try to always train at a high level. No breaks. Because when you get in the game and you’re running that hurry-up offense, you don’t get any breaks. So, my thing is that’s the way I want to train.’’

Sproles missed most of the last two seasons due to injuries, playing in just nine games combined in 2017 and 2018. However, when healthy, Sproles remains one of the league's most versatile weapons.

Since joining Philadelphia in 2014, Sproles has made three Pro Bowl appearances and has led the league in both punt return yardage and punt return touchdowns twice apiece.
