The Philadelphia Eagles were widely expected to add to their receiving corps this offseason.

But the Eagles passed up on a number of free-agent wideouts, instead of relying on the NFL draft to add to their talent pool. Even then, only one of those receivers–first-round pick Jalen Reagor–figures to come in and contribute right away.

DeSean Jackson could care less.

The veteran receiver took to Instagram on Tuesday to address the notion he is a No. 3 receiver, saying he is still capable of being a No. 1 guy.

Philly signed Jackson to a three-year deal shortly after acquiring him from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last March. Initially, the investment looked like a good one.

Jackson exploded for 154 yards on eight catches (including a pair of touchdowns) in the regular-season opener, showcasing the sort of explosive playmaking he so often exhibited during his first stint with the Eagles. It seemed Jackson and Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz would be a dangerous combo going forward.

Except Jackson would play just 14 offensive snaps the rest of the season. He suffered an abdominal strain in Week 2. The injury was only supposed to keep him out a couple of weeks, but Jackson did not return until Week 9. He played just one series before coming off the sideline, and would eventually undergo core-muscle surgery.

The 33-year-old is certainly still one of the fastest players in football. But he has also struggled to stay healthy in recent seasons.

Philly can ill afford the likes of Jackson or Alshon Jeffery to sustain more injuries if they hope for Wentz and the rest of the offense to take a step forward in 2020.
