Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson is currently in hot water for some anti-Semetic comments he made on social media. That water has gone from lukewarm to boiling, given that the Eagles seem very interested in cutting him off the team entirely. Money might end up being the deciding factor.

Jackson's off the field remarks have him nearly over the ledge in Philadelphia. However, the financial impacts cutting him would have ultimately determines his fate.

As ESPN Insider Adam Schefter reports, the Eagles' financial obligation is the sticking point here.

“Eagles decision on whether to keep DeSean Jackson could come down to whether post is a default under his contract. Jackson is guaranteed $4.8M this year in salary and already received a $2M option bonus. Eagles could try to figure out a way out of guaranteed salary first.”

The contract Jackson signed reportedly has some indications of potential scenarios wherein the team could renege on its obligation to pay him. It's just unsure if Jackson's actions would justify triggering this in the first place. Jackson had posted a highlighted passage that quoted Adolf Hitler.

If the league or the Eagles themselves hand DeSean a suspension, then the guarantee is automatically waived. However, the occurrence is a social media issue that is unrelated to anything on the football field. That becomes much harder to defend as an action without looking like the team is just blatantly trying to press undo on the contract outright.

More likely than note, the Eagles will have to bite the bullet to get rid of Jackson.

Given the money involved though, looks like he might still end up staying.
