Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb caught plenty of flak for his recent comments regarding quarterback Carson Wentz. He is now trying to clarify some of the comments he made about the fourth-year quarterback.

McNabb made headlines when he hinted that the Eagles may have to find another potential franchise quarterback if Wentz cannot lead them to the promised land. He has now taken to Twitter to further explain his criticisms:

For those of you who misread, didn’t understand, were confused or just didn’t like my comments let me clarify it for you. Let me start by saying there’s no beef, riff or ill-will toward him or the Eagles. My comments were strictly based off of experience and understanding

It is easy to see why McNabb's initial comments about Wentz may have been blown out of context. The Eagles have made quite the investment in making Wentz their franchise quarterback.

Like McNabb, they selected him with the No. 2 overall pick and wasted no time in handing over the keys to the offense to him. They further solidified their belief in him when they allowed quarterback Nick Foles to walk this offseason.

Regardless, there is still plenty of truth to McNabb's comments. Wentz certainly showed plenty of promise during his MVP-caliber 2017 campaign until it was derailed by a devastating knee injury. As a result, it was Foles that ultimately led the Eagles to their first Super Bowl in franchise history.

Meanwhile, Wentz has struggled to stay healthy while attempting to return to his stellar form.

At this point, there is no question that the 26-year-old has much left to prove moving forward.
