The Philadelphia Eagles enjoyed one of the more impressive Super Bowl runs in recent history to finish the 2017 NFL season. As a result, there has been some speculation regarding the new pecking order under center.

The resurgence of quarterback Nick Foles has raised questions about whether or not he could assume the starting job. However, head coach Doug Pederson has made it clear that quarterback Carson Wentz is still the face of the franchise, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk:

“I still believe this is Carson’s team,” Pederson said.. “I don’t have any other — I don’t think differently about that.”

Pederson added that Foles is well-aware of his role as the backup.

“For sure,” Pederson said. “For sure.”

Pederson's comments should come as no surprise. Prior to the torn ACL he suffered in December, Wentz was the early favorite to win MVP honors and for good reason. He threw for 3,296 yards, 33 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions in 13 games last season. As good as Foles was in the playoffs, there is no denying that Wentz is already one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league.

Fortunately, Philadelphia still has the luxury of having the best backup quarterback in the NFL as a contingency plan. Still, something has to be said about Foles' ability to get the job done. He managed to lead the underdog Eagles to an impressive Super Bowl win over the heavily-favored New England Patriots. Tt could only be a matter of time before Foles is given the same acknowledgment that Pederson gave Wentz, in Philly or elsewhere.
