Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is still on the mend from a back injury that knocked him out of the final five games of the 2018 campaign, and as a result, head coach Doug Pederson is not sure if the will play in the preseason opener on Thursday night, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

Pederson has also said that one of the team's plans is to get backup quarterback Nate Sudfeld “as much playing time as possible,” so we'll see if Sudfeld ends up starting against the Tennessee Titans on Thursday evening.

Wentz has not been limited in practice this offseason, unlike last year when he was recovering from a torn ACL and missed the entire preseason. But, understandably, Philadelphia wants to be very careful with its franchise quarterback.

During the 11 games, he did play in 2018, Wentz threw for 3,074 yards, 21 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 69.6 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 102.2.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at North Dakota State, was originally selected by the Eagles with the second overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He went on to start all 16 games during his rookie year, throwing for 3,782 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 14 picks while completing 62.4 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 79.3.

Then, the following season, Wentz had an MVP-caliber campaign before suffering a torn ACL in Week 14, as he had tallied 3,296 yards, 33 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, completing 60.2 percent of his throws and recording a passer rating of 101.9, making the Pro Bowl as a result.
