The Philadelphia Eagles will stick with Carson Wentz under center. However, rookie signal-caller Jalen Hurts might see an uptick in snap count.
Eagles head coach Doug Pederson suggested the team might look for ways to involve Hurts in the offense going forward, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk:
Eagles coach Doug Pederson has been crystal clear that he will not bench starting quarterback Carson Wentz for rookie Jalen Hurts. But Hurts might start to get more snaps as a gadget player on offense.
Pederson allowed today that Hurts may see more playing time going forward.
“I think I can get him in the game a little bit more,” Pederson said.
Wentz struggled again in the Eagles' loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
The former No. 2 overall pick completed just 60 percent of his passes and tossed two more interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. Wentz did throw a pair of touchdown passes, though one of those came late when the game was essentially out of hand.
It has been an ugly year for Wentz. The 27-year-old leads the NFL with 14 interceptions and 10 fumbles. Wentz has also been sacked a league-high 40 times, though some of those have come by his own fault.
Perhaps Hurts' running ability can give the Eagles a more varied look on the offensive side of the football. The former Alabama and Oklahoma star has played just 31 total offensive snaps this season, but Pederson suggested his percentage could increase going forward.
Philadelphia is miraculously still atop a woeful NFC East. But they need better quarterback play going forward, and Pederson seems willing to at least mix things up a bit and try go get Hurts more involved.
