The uncertainty surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles’ starting quarterback situation is about to come to an end. Eagles head coach Doug Pederson says he will decide which quarterback to start for Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons by Friday, the day after their final preseason game.

Although, Pederson says he won’t disclose his decision to the public, who will have to find out about his choice hours before the game.

Carson Wentz has long been tipped to reclaim his starting job as long as he returns in time following his torn ACL. He’s been back in training doing 11-on-11 drills and splitting first-team reps with backup Nick Foles. But as Pederson exasperatedly answered recently, Wentz still hasn’t been cleared for contact and faces a race against time to be ready for the Falcons.

Meanwhile, Foles has looked shaky during his first few preseason outings. Although, Pederson and the Eagles may have no choice but to make him the starter if Wentz doesn’t make it in time.

Pederson is likely just waiting to see whether Wentz will be able to be cleared for contact within this week. If he’s cleared by Friday, it would still give him just enough time to prepare for the Falcons. But anything later would likely be a little too late given that they play on Thursday night.

Despite Foles’ struggles in preseason, he still remains about as good a second choice to start for any team. And even if he does continue his poor play, he likely won’t have to start for too long with Wentz set to return in due time.
