Earlier this week, there were rumors swirling that the Philadelphia Eagles offered Jordan Howard in a trade for Melvin Gordon but Doug Pederson said those are false.

Addressing the media on Friday, Pederson said that the team never offered Howard in any trade, and he made sure he went to the former Chicago Bears running back to let him know.

“We feel great about Jordan,” Pederson said at his Friday press conference at NovaCare Complex via NJ.com. “It’s why we brought him here. We actually went to Jordan when the report came out, we went right to him and said: Listen, you’re here. The report’s false. It’s not coming from us. So just wanted to reassure him that this is the reason why you’re here, to help us win games.”

There has been talking the last couple of weeks that Miles Sanders might actually be the teams top running back this year but even if that happens the Eagles plan to use many backs, so Howard will still have a big role on the team.

Over the last three seasons, Howard has the third-highest rushing total in the league and has been especially good when the team needs a couple of big yards. He also is a very good in pass protection, something that Sanders needs to work on.

This is the NFL so anything can change on a dime, but it still appears that Howard should be playing a big role on the Eagles starting on Sunday against the Washington Redskins.
