There is a saying that fortune favors the bold. This seems to be the mantra of Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson after winning Super Bowl LII against the New England Patriots.
Needless to say, the Eagles finally became the epitome of that throughout the entire 2017 NFL season and playoffs. According to Jimmy Kempski of the PhillyVoice, Pederson's aggressive approach paid off tremendously for the Eagles last season:
It goes without saying that Pederson was extremely efficient in his playcalling at crucial times. The second-year head coach has even gone on record saying that conservative teams do not win championships. It also does not hurt that he had one of the most formidable defenses in the league to help bail him out should the attempts go south.
Pederson's willingness to gamble is not something that just started this year. He has used the same approach ever since he took over as the Eagles' head coach prior to the 2016 NFL season. Unfortunately, his risk-taking did not earn praise from fans and media then like it did this year. Then again, he did not enjoy the same type of success in such situations.
Fortunately, Pederson managed to pick his battles wisely this time around, and it ultimately paid off. Of course, it eventually culminated with the “Philly Special,” which has since become the highlight of Super Bowl LII after the Eagles managed to score on fourth down. Pederson's aggressive tactics continue to take the NFL by storm as teams are now looking at all the potential points they could have registered had they possessed the plums to deal with the repercussions.
