Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro defensive tackle Fletcher Cox is expected to play in Week 1 against the Washington Redskins, according to executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman.

Cox has been rehabbing from offseason foot surgery all summer, but Roseman told reporters that he expects Cox to be ready for the season opener (per Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk):

At a press conference on Saturday after the roster was set, executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman was asked if keeping four defensive tackles meant the team expected Cox to play against Washington.

“Yes, I this I that would be fair,” Roseman said. “I was trying to think of something funnier, but I didn’t have anything.”

The 28-year-old had the best season of his seven-year career—all of which have been spent with the Eagles—in 2018. Cox recorded a career-high 10.5 sacks and 34 QB hits while playing in all 16 games. It marked the fourth straight season in which he was named to the Pro Bowl, and the first year in which he was named All-Pro first team.

Cox was ranked No. 28 in the “NFL Top 100 Players of 2019,” and he was rated as the second-best defensive tackle in the game, just behind Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald (who was voted as the best player in football).

Philadelphia struggled with a litany of injuries in the secondary last season, but the Eagles tied for eighth in sacks behind the strong play of Cox and the rest of the front seven.

With a reloaded secondary and a healthy Cox, Philly's defense will look to make strides as the Eagles hope to get back to the Super Bowl.
