Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles was drafted in the second round by the team (53rd overall) after a blockbuster senior season with the Oklahoma Sooners. Now, the 21-year-old has received his rite of passage into the NFL proper – by being bestowed a Madden rating.

With a rating of 68, Hurts comes in as the fifth-highest-rated rookie quarterback in the 2020 draft class behind Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals (76, 1st), Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins (73, 2nd), Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers (71, 3rd) and Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers (70, 4th).

As previously stated, Hurts had a staggering senior season in Oklahoma after three solid – if unspectacular – years with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Admittedly, Hurts did win the SEC Offensive Player of the Year award in 2016 with Bama.

Famously, Hurts was replaced in critical, must-win games by Tua Tagovailoa – perhaps explaining why Hurts would be willing to leave one of the winningest programs in college football history.

According to the Madden ratings, Hurts was given the highest acceleration rating of any rookie QB this season with an 89 (tied with Cole McDonald of the Tennessee Titans and Tyler Huntley of the Baltimore Ravens). Those same three players also tied with an 86 speed rating in the game.

However, Hurts is given the highest strength rating of any rookie QB with a 72 as well as the highest agility rating with a lofty 88.

While those stats certainly sound good, it will be interesting to see how the Eagles employ the decorated college star next season.
