The Philadelphia Eagles' season came to an end in their early playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After the loss, Jalen Hurts was seen in a walking boot, which made it clear that his ankle injury was still very relevant.

Over two weeks later, Hurts is having surgery. NFL reporter Tom Pelissero tweeted that the young quarterback has ankle surgery Wednesday afternoon.

This is bittersweet news for Eagles fans. Of course, no football fan wants to see their franchise quarterback injured. However, it was obvious towards the last few weeks of the season that this injury wasn't fixing itself.

Hurts suffered the ankle injury in the Eagles' embarrassing Week 12 loss to the New York Giants. He rested the next two weeks (sat out in Week 13 against the New York Jets, Week 14 bye) and suited up for Week 15.

From Week 15 to Wild Card Weekend, Hurts wasn't himself. The mobile quarterback limited himself to fewer rushing attempts, spending a lot more time in the backfield than usual.

This is the best time for Hurts to have the procedure. It gives him plenty of time to rest, heal, and recover before the Eagles begin training for the 2022 season. Hurts is the quarterback of the Eagles' future, according to general manager Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni, so this procedure and recovery are crucial for Philadelphia.
