There was a time when Jason Peters was one of the best offensive tackles in football. That is no longer the case, which is why he is still available on the free-agent market in May. Although, his time with the Eagles might become a lifeline now.

However, it appears that Peters will have a home soon, and it will be with a familiar team.

According to Derrick Gunn of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Peters and the Eagles have mutual interest in a return. Gunn notes that while the initial plan for Philly was to have Andre Dillard start at left tackle in 2020, the club is re-thinking that and may prefer to bring Peters back in a starting role for one more year before allowing Dillard to take over in 2021.

This would allow Dillard to learn under Peters for an extra season.

Peters has spent the last 11 seasons with the Eagles, making seven Pro Bowl appearances while earning a couple of First-Team All-Pro selections.

However, Peters has not made a trip to the Pro Bowl since 2016, and over the last three years, he has played in a grand total of 36 of a possible 48 games due to injuries. He appeared in 13 contests in 2019.

The 38-year-old, who played his collegiate football as a tight end at the University of Arkansas, went undrafted but eventually landed with the Buffalo Bills as a free agent in 2004.

He transition to tackle right off the bat, and by his third season, Peters was the full-time starting left tackle for the Bills. Peters earned a couple of Pro Bowl selections in Buffalo (2007, 2008) before joining the Eagles.
