The Philadelphia Eagles suffered another blow as sophomore left tackle Andre Dillard recently sustained a season-ending biceps injury in training camp. Despite the gaping hole, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson claimed that the starting left tackle won't be handed easily to veteran right guard Jason Peters.

“Jason Peters is obviously in the conversation,” the Eagles Super Bowl champion coach said. “We’ve got a couple of guys now, including Jason Peters, that we want to look at over at the left side, and JP has done an outstanding job coming in, playing the right guard spot, we’re going to continue to look at him there as well. But, we have some options.”

Jason Peters is the clear-cut choice to take over Dillard's spot notwithstanding the head coach's statements. The former Arkansas Razorback saw significant success in the left tackle position as he earned nine Pro Bowl trips throughout his 17-year career.

Peters has been recently slotting in at the right guard position to take over another injured lineman in Pro Bowl right guard Brandon Brooks, who suffered a torn Achilles.

Third-year players Jordan Mailata and Matt Pryor along with 2020 fourth-round pick Jack Driscoll are also in the running for the vacant position. Mailata has received the majority of the second-team left tackle reps in training camp. The injury of Dillard opened more opportunities for him as he was initially expected by many to be cut from the team by September.

Pryor has lined up at right tackle and right guard during the summer. He also started at right guard during the NFC Wild-Card Round loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the 2019 NFL Playoffs. Despite starring in a big game, Pryor has never lined up on a regular-season game in the left tackle position.

Meanwhile, Driscoll's versatility would help him move up the ranks as he experienced playing in four different positions throughout his college career. He has mostly lined up with the second-team offense at right tackle.

The fate and the role of these players will be known by September 5 when the final 53-man roster should have already been named by then by the Eagles.
