The Philadelphia Eagles have decided to shake things up after a whimper of an exit against the Seattle Seahawks during the Wild Card round. The offensive coordinator post is one of the jobs that opened within the Eagles' coaching staff, and two notable names in Jim Caldwell and Kevin O'Connell are considered candidates for the position.

Both Caldwell and O'Connell have solid experience in the position. Caldwell served as the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and the Detroit Lions. Meanwhile, O'Connell served as an offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins after spending a single-year as Tom Brady's backup for the New England Patriots.

It was a tough decision for Eagles head coach Doug Pederson to let go of former OC Mike Groh and wide receivers coach Carson Waltch, but it was certainly justifiable. Philadelphia's offense was one of the most glaring weaknesses that they experienced this season as a team. The two candidates, Caldwell and O'Connell, could help to provide a boost if their experience were to translate to results.

“After much consideration and discussion, I have decided to make a change at the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach positions. It was not an easy decision for me to make and I appreciate everything that Mike Groh and Carson Walch contributed to the organization and to my staff. As I said yesterday, they were a big part of our success down the stretch this past season. This is one of the most difficult parts of the job and something that weighs on me, but ultimately I have to make decisions that I believe are in the best interest of the football team moving forward,” Pederson said in a statement.

The next hire will be held accountable to revitalize an Eagles offense that stuttered a lot during the course of the season. It will be a welcome challenge for whoever gets the job.
