Philadelphia Eagles running back Jordan Howard has not played since Week 9 due to a shoulder injury, and is prognosis going forward doesn't look all that promising.

According to Zach Berman of The Athletic, Howard has not been cleared for contact and will not play against the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

Berman adds that the Eagles are holding on to Howard's roster spot with the hope that he can return.

Should Howard be out for the remainder of the season, it would be a rather devastating blow to a Philadelphia offense that was relying heavily on him throughout the year.

Howard was particularly effective in his two most recent games, carrying the ball 23 times for 96 yards and a touchdown in a Week 8 win over the Buffalo Bills and following that up by totaling 82 yards and a score off of 19 attempts during a Week 9 victory over his former Chicago Bears club.

On the season overall, Howard has registered 525 yards and six scores while averaging 4.4 yards per carry.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Indiana University, was originally selected by the Bears in the fifth round (150th pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He had a terrific rookie campaign, racking up 1,313 yards and six touchdowns while logging 5.2 yards per attempt en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Howard then rushed for 1,122 yards while reaching the end zone nine times in 2017, although his efficiency dipped to 4.1 yards per tote. His effectiveness fell even further in 2018, as he tallied a meager 3.7 yards per carry.

Chicago then traded Howard to Philadelphia back in March.

The Eagles are 6-7 on the season and are tied with the Dallas Cowboys for first place in the NFC East.
