Originally, it looked like Nate Sudfeld's job as the Philadelphia Eagles' backup quarterback was safe when he broke his wrist in the Eagles' first preseason game, but the signing of Josh McCown has thrown a wrench into things.

So much so, as a matter of fact, that there is a chance Sudfeld doesn't even make Philadelphia's opening day roster.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk says that McCown's deal with the Eagles suggests that he is taking over as the No. 2 signal-caller, as he will be getting $2 million guaranteed and up to $5.4 million for the season.

With McCown now on the roster, the Eagles currently have Carson Wentz, McCown, Sudfeld and rookie Clayton Thorson as their quarterbacks, so unless Philly wants to go with four signal-callers, Sudfeld's roster spot could be in jeopardy.

The Eagles had high hopes for Sudfeld, whom they signed in September 2017 and re-signed to a one-year deal this past April after losing Nick Foles.

Sudfeld completed 20 of his 25 passes during his first two years with the Eagles, tallying 156 yards and a touchdown.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Indiana University, was originally selected by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round (187th pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He spent one season with the Redskins before being cut just before the 2017 campaign, which was when the Eagles picked him up.

As for McCown, the 40-year-old has decided to come out of retirement to play for Philly. He spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons with the New York Jets, making 16 starts.
