The Philadelphia Eagles are prepared to move forward with Miles Sanders as their starting running back, but they could add a familiar face to the backfield. According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, there is the possibility that LeSean McCoy could return to Philadelphia in free agency.
“I would not discount the possibility of him returning to the Eagles,” Garafolo said. “I also would not discount the possibility that he meets up with Anthony Lynn out with the Chargers, who are going to have some changes in the backfield. So, some interesting possibilities for LeSean McCoy as he heads into free agency.”
Prior to the 2019 season, McCoy was released by the Buffalo Bills after four seasons with the team. Following his release, McCoy ended up signing with his former coach, Andy Reid, to join the Kansas City Chiefs.
In his lone season with the Chiefs, McCoy rushed for a career-low 465 yards. Additionally, he was a healthy scratch for the Chiefs in the Super Bowl as the team defeated the San Francisco 49ers.
Despite his dismal season, McCoy believes he can still contribute to a team in 2020. Of course, with McCoy entering free agency, some Eagles fans are going to be interested in a reunion. The Pittsburgh product began his career in Philadelphia as a second-round pick in 2009.
The addition of McCoy could be something that Doug Pederson considers, as they could use some depth behind Sanders. At the same time, the veteran running back would likely take a discount to join his former team.
Once free agency begins, it wouldn't come as a surprise if McCoy strikes a deal with the Eagles.
