Lincoln Riley knows the Philadelphia Eagles made headlines with their decision to take quarterback Jalen Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. There is now plenty of speculation regarding how the rookie can be utilized in ways that do not undermine quarterback Carson Wentz.

Many have likened Hurts' immediate potential to that of New Orleans Saints utility man Taysom Hill. According to NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano, Oklahoma head coach Lincoln. Riley set the record straight on Hurts' skill set as a true quarterback as he prepares to play for the Eagles:

“I think a little bit of those opinions come from people that haven’t really watched the tapes. When you see his tapes, you see one of the most efficient passing seasons in the history of college football this year.”

It is clear that all the talk about Hurts being a gadget player for a couple of trick plays did not sit too well with Riley. He made sure to come to bat for the Eagles' quarterback, just as he did with his predecessors to help them get taken with the No. 1 overall picks in the draft in consecutive years.

The fact that the Eagles managed to secure a surplus of talent under center is certainly encouraging. After all, they are all too familiar with the importance of shoring up a solid contingency plan after backup quarterback Nick Foles led them to their first Super Bowl win in franchise history.

Of course, this will only raise further debates about the long-term plans the Eagles have at quarterback in the event that Wentz struggles to stay healthy.
