The Philadelphia Eagles haven't had the season they were hoping to have but Miles Sanders has provided them a glimmer of hope for the future. Early in Sunday's game versus the Washington Redskins, Sanders passed DeSean Jackson for the most scrimmage yards by a rookie in franchise history per Dave Zangaro.

Back in 2008, Jackson was able to garner 912 receiving yards and 96 rushing yards for a grand total of 1,008 yards as a rookie. Following a seven-yard run on Sunday, Sanders was able to surpass Jackson's rookie record for yards in a season.

Altogether, Sanders has accounted for 603 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. The Penn State product also has flashed his receiving ability with 38 receptions for 409 yards. Not to mention another two touchdowns at the time this article is being written.

When the Eagles selected Sanders with the 53rd overall pick, they wanted to develop him alongside Jordan Howard. But due to Howard's injury woes, Sanders has seen an increased workload as the season has rolled along.

It's an impressive feat to be mentioned with anything pertaining to Jackson. The big-play wide receiver provided Philadelphia with three one-thousand-yard seasons and three Pro Bowl bids.

The Eagles will have to make a decision this offseason on whether or not to retain Howard. Sanders' impressive rookie campaign may make that decision a bit easier for the Eagles.

Regardless of Howard's future, it's evident that Sanders has one in Philadelphia. A strong finish to the season could see Miles Sanders mentioned in the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year conversation.
