The Philadelphia Eagles were in dire need of some help at quarterback and signed veteran Josh McCown to the roster over the weekend. Backup quarterback, Nate Sudfeld trusts in his abilities and understands the signing.

“I feel very confident in my abilities and I feel like they have a lot of confidence in me,” Sudfeld said. “I understand the signing, especially with the injury I got. We’re just a really great team and I think Josh adds to a great team.”

In the Eagles' preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans, Sudfeld suffered a fractured wrist after taking a hit to his hand. As a result, Sudfeld would require surgery and will miss six or more weeks as he recovers from the injury.

With the departure of Nick Foles in the offseason, Sudfeld was expected to become the immediate backup to Carson Wentz. Along with Sudfeld's injury, the Eagles witnessed Cody Kessler also sustain an injury in their second exhibition contest.

The Eagles' third-string quarterback took a hit to his head against the Jacksonville Jaguars and exited the game in the first quarter.  Due to Wentz being in street clothes, rookie Clayton Thorson was the only remaining active quarterback with Kessler being out.

The quarterback position was getting thin behind Wentz—who has had injury issues himself. Philadelphia made some calls to convince Josh McCown to come out of retirement. Earlier this spring, McCown announced his retirement from the NFL as a member of the New York Jets.

The 40-year-old quarterback signed a one-year deal with the Eagles to be the backup to Wentz. Fans in Philly are hoping that McCown doesn't need to see the field in 2019, however.
