NFL quarterback. Super Bowl champion. Super Bowl MVP.

Backup player.

That's the current label of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles. The Super Bowl 52 MVP has returned to backing up starter Carson Wentz after a magical run yet if he had it his way, he'd love to grab that opportunity to start again, via Rob Tornoe of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

“I know there was some stuff going around, a possible trade, and I would love the opportunity to be a starter again. I know my spot in Philly. I think I’ve shown what I can do.” Foles said while sporting a Phillies cap. “I’m signed for one more year and I love the team, I love the city. I’m excited for Carson [Wentz] to get back on his feet. I’ll be ready to go whenever they need me. But we’ll see.”

Wishes or not, Foles is currently a backup NFL quarterback behind one of the young treasures most NFL personnel-decision makers drool over.

Foles, 29, took the helm from Wentz after he tore his ACL late in the year against the Los Angeles Rams. After an average three-game starting stint to cap the regular season, the man simply transformed into a legend in January.

In three games, Foles threw for 971 yards and six touchdowns to just one interception with a mind-boggling completion percentage of 72.6 while leading his Philadelphia Eagles to the organization's first-ever Vince Lombardi trophy.

Foles' relationship with Howie Roseman and the suits in the Philly front office remains strong despite his backup status.

“I think the big thing with Philly is I have such a great relationship with all the personnel decision-makers that if there ever does come a day where I am traded or something does happen, it’s going to be an open conversation,” Foles said. “We’re excited to go back to Philly. … I don’t know what my career holds from here on out.”

Nick Foles won't turn 30 until next January—right around the time he seems to step it up to another level, NFL Playoff time.
