The Philadelphia Eagles seemingly had quite the quarterback conundrum on their hands following a spectacular finish to the 2017 NFL season. Fortunately, it appears Nick Foles is more than willing to get back to his role as the backup behind Carson Wentz.

It goes without saying that Foles has earned the right to lead his own team. However, during an appearance on First Things First, he said that he is content with backing up Wentz:

“I want [Carson Wentz] to have a great career, even at the expense of me not playing. That's where I gotta put my ego aside.”

Foles' comments may come as a bit of a surprise. Most had written the Eagles off last year when Wentz went down for the season. However, Foles was able to step up his game en route to winning Super Bowl MVP honors.

Given his performance, there was plenty of speculation that he could be dealt to the number of quarterback-hungry teams throughout the league this offseason. Foles' willingness to serve as a contingency plan has once again given Philadelphia two viable options under center.

His comments are indicative of how many players feel when it comes to choosing their next destination. Foles underwent a number of trials and tribulations during his tumultuous career, revealing that he actually considered retiring before joining the Kansas City Chiefs. That said, he has certainly come a long way since.

Eagles fans should soak up the year Foles has left on his deal. There is no doubt that he will receive some intriguing offers following the 2018 campaign when he hits the market.
